Time Keeping
| Doors are opened at 08:50 am and locked again at 09:05 am. Any pupil arriving after 9:05 am will need to enter through the main entrance and inform Mrs Williams/Mrs O’Brien of their attendance. If pupils arrive after 9:05 am, they will be issued with a late (L) mark. Any pupil arriving after 9:30 am (after the official close of the registers) will be issued with a ‘U’ code which indicates an unauthorised late mark. Any pupil arriving after 9:05am will be detailed in our ‘Late Book’ which is discussed with the Local Authority Attendance and Wellbeing Service. Punctuality of all pupils will be monitored closely throughout the year. |
Attendance | School attendance is a national priority and as a result, is monitored closely by school staff. If your child is absent from school, we ask that you kindly notify the school by contacting the school office on 01443 473296. |
ClassDojo
| We will shortly be introducing Class Dojo across the whole school. ClassDojo is an amazing platform to communicate with parents/carers, share photographs/videos of the children, pieces of work and experiences and this will be used throughout the year. Please note that ClassDojo will capture ‘snapshots’ of the day, and your child may not necessarily be in every picture uploaded. It is your responsibility to check Dojo regularly and inform us if you require a new access code. More information about this will be shared over the next few weeks, but you will need to download the ClassDojo app to your phone. |
Uniform | We feel that uniform and appearance play an important part in the high expectations we have of ourselves individually and as a community. We therefore ask that all pupils at Perthcelyn wear school uniform every day. Our school uniform is as follows:
False nails are NOT appropriate for school please do not wear. |
P.E.
| On designated P.E. days, pupils will be required to bring appropriate P.E. kit to school to change into. Please ensure your child brings the following items:
Our P.E. day for this year is Wednesday. All earrings must be removed or plastered (preferably removed) in PE lessons. This term our class are attending swimming lessons that are compulsory and part of the curriculum. Children are assessed and put into different ability groups from non swimmers to those achieving badges with a qualified instructor with each group. |
Reading | As a school, we use the Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme. Please try to listen to your child read as often as possible. Remember, 5 minutes each evening is better than 15 minutes once a week! Try to talk to your child about the book they are reading, and ask questions about the characters, the setting (where the story takes place) and the plot (what happens in the story), as well as asking them to make predictions about what they think might happen. Pupils' understanding of the text is as important as their ability to read it, and we will continually focus on these skills throughout the Year. Every time you listen to your child read, please ensure you record the date, page number and a comment in the yellow reading record book so that we can identify if books have been completed and a new book is required. Books need to be in school every day. |
Homework | As a school we do not set weekly ‘homework’ but we will send home times tables and ‘learn it’s’ for your child to practice. We practice these daily in class ready for our Big Maths test every Friday. This is a timed test that pupils complete when they get full marks three times in a row they move onto the next level. Your child has already been sent home if you have not seen them please contact me. |
Clothing & Personal Belongings
| Please ensure that all items of clothing (including swimwear), as well as bags, packed lunch bags are clearly labelled with your child's name. Pupils should avoid bringing any unnecessary items into school. |
Lunch | Pupils can choose to have a school lunch or bring in a packed lunch from home.. At Perthcelyn, we strongly encourage pupils to have school dinners. Not only are they now free for everyone, but as a result of the choices available, school meals provide wider benefits such as:
The RCT School Lunch Menu can be found on our school website. |
Playtime Snacks/Brunch | For pupils in Dosbarth Glas and Dosbarth Porffor, we see brunch items during every morning break. Pupils can purchase a range of fruit and cereal for 20p. If pupils do not wish to purchase anything from our brunch offer, they are welcome to bring in fruit or healthy cereal bars (not chocolate/marshmallow covered) for a snack at playtime. |
Packed Lunches | As a school, we continuously encourage and promote healthy packed lunches. For more information regarding healthy packed lunches, please follow the link below. https://www.gov.wales/sites/default/files/publications/2019-02/healthy-lunchboxes-leaflet.pdf |
Drinks | All our pupils are provided with a school water bottle and pupils are permitted to have regular drinks throughout the day. However, we only allow plain water (this does not include drinks with packed lunches). Pupils can refill their water bottle from the classroom taps (which are safe for drinking purposes) should they need to throughout the day. |
Library | We have a school lending library and your child will visit this area to choose a book to bring home that you can share together to foster a love for reading. They will be provided with a plastic book bag (first one free of charge) to carry their library book to and from school in. Please do not buy rucksacks as many of our books will not fit in them without getting damaged. Our day for visiting the school library will be a Wednesday. |
